What lessons do they learn?

Yesterday I was reading some more from Gatto’s book Dumbing Us Down and I read the following:
With lessons like the ones I teach day after day it should be little wonder we have a real national crisis, the nature of which is very different from that proclaimed by the national media.  Young people are indifferent to the adult world and to the future, indifferent to almost everything except the diversion of toys and violence.  Rich or poor, school children who face the twenty-first century cannot concentrate on anything for very long; they have a poor sense of time past and time to come.  They are mistrustful of intimacy like the children of divorce they really are (for we have divorced them from significant paternal attention); they hate solitude, are cruel, materialistic, dependent, passive, violent, timid in the face of the unexpected, addicted to distraction.
All the peripheral tendencies of childhood are nourished and magnified to a grotesque extent by schooling, which, through its hidden curriculum, prevents effective personality development.  Indeed, without exploiting the fearfulness, selifishness, and inexperience of children, our schools could not survive at all, not could I as a certified schoolteacher.”
And also some scathing remarks about the affects of our current schooling system:
“It is time that we squarely face the fact that institutional schoolteaching is destructive to children.  Nobody survives the seven-lesson curriculum completely unscathed, not even the instructors.  The method is deeply and profoundly anti-educational. No tinkering will fix it.  In one of the great ironies of human affairs, the massive re-thinking the schools require would cost so much less than we are spending now that powerful interests cannot afford to let it happen.  You must understand that first and foremost the business I am in is a jobs project and an agency for letting contracts.  We cannot afford to save money by reducing the scope of our operation or by diversifying the product we offer, even to help children grow up right.  That is the iron law of institutional schooling – it is a business, subject neither to normal accounting procedures nor to the rational scalpel of competition.” (emphasis my own)
Where did the idea for compulsory schooling come from?
“Our form of compulsory schooling is an invention of the State of Massachusetts around 1850.  It was resisted – sometimes with guns – by an estimated eighty percent of the Massachusetts population, the last outpost in Barnstable on Cape Cod not surrendering its children until the 1880s, when the area was seized by militia and children marched to school under guard.
Now here is a curious idea to ponder.  Senator Ted Kennedy’s office released a paper not too long ago claiming that prior to compulsory education the state literacy rate was ninety-eight percent, and after in the figure never exceeded ninety-one percent, where it stands in 1990.” (emphasis my own)
Those whose ideas created the system which schools the majority of America’s children:
If we use schooling to break children away from parents – and make no mistake, that has been the central function of schools since John Cotton announced it as the purpose of the Bay Colony schools in 1650 and Horace Mann announced it as the purpose of Massachusetts schools in 1850 – we’re going to continue to have the horror show we have right now.”

Six Secrets You've Never Been Told About Inflation
By Craig Smith
Surging gasoline and food prices are starting to reflect the coming tidal wave of much higher real world cost-of-living increases in our future. The International Monetary Fund's Commodity Food Price Index is up in the last six months by an annualized average of 45.84 percent! On February 24 the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture warned that "extreme food prices," as the Financial Times described them, will hit the U.S. this year and "stay" for years to come.

Worldview Weekend Radio with Brannon Howse
There is revisionist history on the right and the left. In Riddles in Stone: the Secret Architecture of Washington D.C. Brannon’s guest, Chris Pinto helps us see how some on the right have neglected to point out the many Greek, Mason, and occult statues and symbols in our nation’s capitol. On September 18, 1993 a Masonic ceremony was held at the U.S. Capitol in which a Mason Grand Master brags that the cornerstone of many major structures in Washington D.C. were laid by the Masons. What was the purpose of this 1993 ceremony? Why did the Mason Grand Master give a blessing of corn, wine, and oil and what does that mean? Is there a connection to Baal and does this connection have anything to do with the traditional corn, wine, and oil ceremony that the Freemasons practice whenever they lay a cornerstone for a building? Was does Hosea 2:8-13 say about this? This program reveals that America, like the children of Israel, have often sought to mix their worship of God with paganism for which the Prophet Elijah told them to make up their minds. In I King 18:21 we read, And Elijah came to all the people, and said, How long halt you between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

Death for Innovation
By Phyllis Schlafly
The Democratic Senate is itching to pass a bill that will mean death for innovation, which is the backbone of American economic growth. Senator Patrick Leahy's (D-VT) bill, S.23, is called patent reform, but it's not reform; it will kill innovation by litigation.

Understanding The Times with Jan Markell
Jan talks to Barry Minkow, author of the book, "Cleaning Up: One Man's Redemptive Journey Through the Seductive World of Corporate Crime." Barry was the teenage business whiz of the 1980s but it got him a long prison sentence. There he found the Lord, was released, became a pastor, and also an undercover agent for the FBI's fraud unit. He gives warnings to schemes going on today. This is uplifting and informative.

"Love Wins" the Smoking Gun That Proves Rob Bell is a "Christian Universalist"
In a recent article at, it was reported that sources from Mars Hill Bible Church in Grandville, MI attended a meeting Saturday night at Mars Hill in which Senior Pastor Rob Bell made a statement and answered questions about his controversial new book "Love Wins." The meeting was called after members at MHBC apparently became concerned over a promotional video for the book in which Rob Bell made statements that led many to question whether or not Rob Bell was a Universalist (i.e., one who believes in universal salvation for all people). In the meeting held at MHBC, however, Rob Bell apparently stated unequivocally he "is not an universalist, believes that Jesus is the only way of salvation, believes in the Virgin Birth, believes Jesus is God."

The Atheist's Explanation for Killer Quakes
By Ray Comfort
An atheist can't blame God for the earthquake that recently took so many lives in Japan. As much as he would like to, he can't say "God-did-it!" because he thinks there's no evidence for God. Blaming Him for it would make as much sense as his blaming Snow White for a snow storm.

Worldview Weekend Radio with Brannon Howse
Brannon Howse, Worldview Weekend Radio. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, National Security Council member Samantha Power, (who has written that Israelis are “bastards”) and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice (whom appointed Iran to the UN Commission on the Status of Women) are all anti-Israel and pro-Islamic. News reports detail that these three women pushed President Obama to authorize strikes against Libya using a “new” United Nations policy called “R2P” or “responsibility to protect”. Experts believe this policy is being implemented in order to lay the “legal precedent” to justify the United Nations, dominated by Marxists and Muslims, to bring “war crimes” against Israel for defending herself against the attacks of Hamas and other Muslim terrorists. Are American Marxists and anti-Semites taking out Gaddafi in order to assist in the rise of Al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood in Libya and for the creation of an Islamic Caliphate in the Mideast? According to Investor’s Business Daily, March 15, 2011, Yusuf Al-Qaradawi is “arguably the most influential Islamic scholar in the region. After 9/11, he issued a fatwah calling for ‘the spread of Islam until it conquers the entire world and includes both the East and the West, marking the beginning of the return of the Islamic caliphate.’ Al-Qaradawi’s hand can be seen in uprisings in Yemen, where a close ally has led thousands of protestors in calling for an ‘Islamic state’: in Tunisia, where he’s demanded the return of exiled Brotherhood leaders, along with Islamic customs banned by the toppled secular regime; and in Libya, where the cleric had told Muslims it’s their religious duty to overthrow President Moammar Gadhafi and to restore the country to its ‘Islam character.’” What is likely to happen to America, according to Genesis 12:3, now that our nation is spending millions of dollars to assist in the establishment of new regime that will likely be part of a Mideast, Islamic Caliphate that will move against Israel as we read in Isaiah 17, Psalm 83, and Ezekiel 38, and 39?

UN intervention into Libya an ominous precedent for Israel
There are many reasons to be worried about the bridge-leap the Obama Administration has just undertaken in its war with Muammar Gaddafi. How it will all end is just one of them. Particularly concerning is the prospect that what we might call the Gaddafi Precedent will be used in the not-to-distant future to justify and threaten the use of U.S. military forces against an American ally: Israel.

Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis Is Kicked Out of Two Homeschool Conferences
Answers in Genesis, recognized as one of the strongest advocates for homeschooling in America, has been kicked out of two homeschool conventions where AiG President Ken Ham had been scheduled to speak. In addition, AiG as an exhibitor has also been expelled. One of the conferences is being held in our "backyard": at the Cincinnati Convention Center. So why has AiG been disinvited from the "Great Homeschool Conventions" (March 31–April 2 in Cincinnati) and also near Philadelphia (June 23–25)? Have the organizers accused AiG of promoting anti-biblical teaching and thus have voided its contract with us?

God Is Shaking the Nations
By Jan Markell
World events are startling! Watching the Middle East, Japan, Australia, Europe, and a meltdown in America, have prompted some healthy discussions on the last days. When events happen at such a rapid pace, it is wise to ask, "What on Earth is happening?" Those who could care less are likely drowning in some kind of destructive behavior because they, too, notice but cannot cope. Who can we trust with answers?

Worldview Weekend Radio with Brannon Howse
George Washington's Sacred Fire by Peter A. Lillback is a national best-seller but is there hard evidence to prove that George Washington had repented of his sins and placed his faith and trust in the atonement provided through the shed blood Jesus Christ and His death, burial, and resurrection? There is no such evidence. Washington’s own pastor of many years was uncertain of Washington’s religious convictions. The Bible verse on Washington’s tomb was not requested by him and was placed there some thirty years after his death. Thomas Jefferson wrote that Washington was not a Christian. At a presentation at Mount Vernon, it was disclosed that the famous Washington Prayer book was discovered nearly a century after Washington’s death and that it was not in his handwriting. Many Masons, and those who believe that the Founders’ version of Freemasonry was a “Christian” form of Freemasonry, have worked overtime to portray Washington, who was a Mason, as a Christian. Masons desire to define a Christian not as one that believes in the exclusivity of Jesus Christ but promotes universalism. Revisionist history on the right and on the left is not acceptable. Thus, Christians should work double-hard to make sure that we are not guilty of slanting history to support a political agenda, universalism or dominion theology. For this reason and purpose, Brannon’s guest is Chris Pinto of who has produced a DVD entitled, The Hidden Faith of the Founding Fathers.

The Bullies' Many Pulpits
By Robert Knight
When I was a kid, I got bullied fairly frequently because I was short. So my parents enrolled me in a Judo class. After a few unexpected flips in the hallways, the bullies left me alone. Confronting bullies helps build character. There are times, of course, when Judo won't work and the best strategy is to avoid the jerks or sic a teacher or principal on them. Almost everybody has a story. But now, bullying has become a federal issue.

Spiritual Discernment – True or False
By Jason Pratt
As a test Naval Flight Officer in the Navy and graduate of the U.S. Navy Test Pilot School, I've flown over 30 types of fighter jets, propeller driven aircraft, helicopters, and gliders. One experience stands out as particularly useful and informative. When I was in flight training for the F-14 we went through a phase of training called Low Altitude Awareness Training and Low Altitude Tactics Training. This training taught us how to fly a high performance jet tactically at 500 feet above ground level and over 300 knots airspeed (around 350 mph). At this altitude and airspeed it takes less than a second to go from level flight to a trend of descending and hitting the ground. It requires unfailing attention and discernment to notice this trend very quickly and to correct it immediately! The slightest trend of what we call a nose slice, where the nose of the aircraft dips below the horizon, would change the flight path from a level turn at low altitude to a dive into the ground at high speed. The slightest deviation would be devastating and tragic. This fact is no less true when applied to the church and allowing error to creep into its teaching. You quickly change your flight path from maintaining truth and worshipping God to diving into lies and worshipping the father of lies. A true convert and teacher will do the former and never the latter. This fact makes discernment so vitally important and why our Lord commands it of every believer.

Hell, as portrayed in Dante's Divine Comedy

"Oh my brothers and sisters in Christ, if sinners will be damned, at least them leap to hell over our bodies; and if they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees, imploring them to stay, and not madly to destroy themselves.  If hell must be filled, at least let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go there unwarned and unprayed for." - Charles Spurgeon (1860)
